Welcome to the RCC Symphony Orchestra
The RCC Symphony Orchestra has been one of the major performing ensembles at Riverside City College for over 30 years. Founded by maestro Kevin Mayse, the baton was passed on to Dr. Gene Moon in 2023. The ensemble performs masterworks from the orchestral repertoire with recent performances including Scheherazade, Symphony No. 2 by Tchaikovsky, Dvorak Symphony No. 8, Egmont Overture by Beethoven, the Overture from The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart, and many other orchestral Favorites. The orchestra spotlights guest artists each year including a world premiere performed by RCC flute professor Eileen Holt. Guests include Evelyn Lee on Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 24, Akina Motoyama on Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 13, Jeong-Eun Lee on Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No 1, David Washburn (Principal trumpet of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra) on Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No 2 and Tom Hooten (Principal Trumpet of the Los Angeles Philharmonic) on the Haydn Trumpet Concerto.
The Orchestra meets on Wednesday nights from 7:00 pm-9:30 pm at the RCC Coil School for the Arts in Downtown Riverside and is open to RCC students (both music majors and non-majors), high school students, and community members by audition.
